SPELLY HOST HOLYPORT IN THE F.A VASE

Only one day to go before we host Holyport FC of the Combined counties premier north division in the F.A Vase. This year has seen us progress to the 1st round proper for the first time in 6 years.

We caught up with Dan Green Assistant Manager and asked him some questions regarding the tie, Here is what he had to say

"Dan, thanks for your time today. This weekend, Spelthorne Sports face Holyport FC in the FA Vase. Can you talk about the importance of this tie for the club?

"Absolutely, it’s a massive game for us. The FA Vase is always a special competition, and it gives clubs like ours a chance to make some real memories and progress on a national level. We know it’s a long road to Wembley, but each round is an opportunity to dream a little bigger"

"With the break from league action this week, how has that impacted the squad?"

"It’s been a nice change, to be honest. The league is so intense and competitive this season, so having a week to reset and focus solely on this cup tie has been good for the players. We’ve been able to focus on some specific areas in training and really plan for Holyport, who will be a tough opponent. The break gives us a chance to put everything into this game without the immediate pressure of league results."

"You mentioned the league being competitive this year. Has it taken a bit more time to rebuild the squad?"

"Yes, it has. We knew coming into the season that there would be a lot of competition in the league, and it’s taken us a bit longer to get the squad to where we want it to be. There’s a lot of talent, and the lads are gelling more every week, but it’s been a process. It’s a rebuilding year in many ways, but we’re starting to see the progress we’ve been looking for."

"With this being a cup game, do you think that levels the playing field a bit more?"

"Definitely. In cup competitions, anything can happen. League form almost goes out the window because it’s all about what happens on the day. We know we’re facing a strong side in Holyport, but the beauty of the FA Vase is that it’s just one game at a time. We’ll be going out there fully prepared and giving everything, because in the cup, the smallest margins can make the biggest difference."

"Best of luck this weekend, Dan. It sounds like the squad is ready for the challenge."

"Thank you! We’re looking forward to it and hopefully we can give our supporters something to cheer about and with our Free youth ticket initative that was given out to our youth section and a couple of local schools it will hopefully be a good crowd"
